Secret Feild Trip

WOW. Today was really really great. We went out past El Centro, not knowing where we where going. I drove in Anne's car and we had a really great time with her. When we pulled up to Salvation Mountain, My first reaction was "That's It??!" That's what we drove 3 hours to see?? It looked like a giant Dr. Suess cartoon.

pictures do not do this place justice.
The creator Lenord Knight, has an emence love for god, and he decided 25 years ago that he was going to show the world that. He created a mountain, caves and trees (shown below) all out of straw, adobe and lot and lots of paint.
It really was like a Dr. Suess book.

Paint and Pigments

So to further our study of art and its place in the world, we are learning about what makes paints what they are. We have been doing a science report about just that.

Basically a pigment is a small dry particle of a certain color that when mixed with the solvent(usally water) and a binder(some kind of oil usually linseed) makes paint. Paint and Pigments have been around for centuries. Anceint civilizations used leaves, berries, and other things to make pigment and water, spit and blood for solvent.

Later in history people began experimenting with differnt things to make pigments. Bugs for example.

Some good websites for pigments/paints

Poetry Project

heyy. today the poetry project was due. We had to take one poem from the poetry project(before winter break) and make something more out of it. Some people did paintings, graphic design peices, songs, dances or photograghy. I chose to do photogaghy duhh. I wanted to do it on my poem "Her". It is a annaphora poem about my horse. I went out and took some pictures of her and framed them for my project. One thing that I wanted to do was frame the poem in a small frame next to the picutes. But when I went to look for the poem I couldn't find a single copy anywhere. I looked in every computer that I have and at all of my old papers. But I couldnt find it anywhere! I was really pissed off. So I took another picture from that day and put it in the frame.
Im trying to put a picture up here but blogger is being dumb.
So I'll try to put it in a later post.

bye
by the way: Happy (1)4th birthday to Marissa

Art Journal

Hey guys. I've just relized that I havn't done much blogging on our art journals that we have in class. So everyday, for one hour a day, we get to just relax and have some art time. We can sit with our freinds and draw, paint, make collages anything we want really do put in our art journal. I really love doing it. It is to give us inspiration for when we have to do our paintings. So far I have decorated the inside cover and the first page, done a watercolor painting of a sunset over the ocean(a little 2nd grade, a water color painting of a red ball sitting on grass and started on a really cool painting of an abstract of I don't know what really but its got a ton of colors and its all trippy and shit. funn.
I find that doing these art journals really relaxes me and gives my ideas on what to paint. I love bright color and fun shapes.

History Review

So today we had the first draft of the art review due. As i said in earler posts I chose to write about Ansel Adams. We had to chose a fine artist, and then embody an art critic in their time. (Had to be before 1960). This was very hard beacuse we had to find what people thought of art at the time. What did people like, dislike and hate. I searched and searched and fianlly found somethings about color being invented for photography and Ansel refuseing to use this new invention. So I went off of that and used It to write a negative review on him. But we also had to write a posative review. For this I used my own personal taste keeping in mind the language of that era. When I got to school after I had worked for a long time on it, I realized that I had written both reviews double spaced when they needed to be single. Also I had forgotten my bibliography. But thankfully this was not graded, only peer critiqued.I will definetly be making some changes to both of the reviews.

Tuesday Febuary 19th

Hey guys! So its been a while since I blogged and I need to catch up. So I'll start with last Tuesday which was the 19th.

So on tuesday We where supposed to have our art journals, but I totally forgot about it over the weekend so Vanessa and I drew on printer paper. I drew a face of a lotion model in a magazine. Didn't look so good. It seems like everytime I draw, the faces are sharp and the eyes huge! I've always had this little dream in the back of my head to be a famously talented artist. I've tried since I was like 7 years old to have some kind of artistic talent and Its not working. But I am starting to really take an intrest in a differnt kind of art. Photography. Latly whenever I have a camera in my hand I search for the perfect shots and love love love finding those weird but ausome shots in everyday life the people dont see.

I am really starting to love a photographer by the name of Stephen Mccury. He does amazing color shots. Like amazing. He has travled to tons of different countries.

Artist Between 1800-1960

Hey,
I am going to be studing an artist's work between 1800-1960. I really am having a hard time comming up with someone to do. Any suggestions?

So I did a sketch today of a human face. It started out as no one really but then in morphed into my good freind. I now relize what I was doing wrong all those times I had tried to draw faces before. I was making the features, way to high on the face itself. So when I corrected this today, I really loved what I was doing! Finally my drawings don't look like monkeys! I was really mad when we had to stop drawing to do something else and I was the last person out of there! I am going to keep working on the drawing to make it better. I think that I am going to fix the nose, and the pupils of the eyes. That is really the only things that I didnt like about the sketch. I know, I'm getting to into a sketch, I mean its just suposed to be a rough idea, but for me I have a hard time doing that with art. Even if its just a small drawing I want it to work and to be good. So that was exciting today!

On an unrelated note. I am really starting to like something about myself. I really like that I am developing a difference of opinion politically from my parents. I mean im not straying to far but I like that I am thinking for myself. If I could vote right now I think that It would be for Barak Obama. He seems to really know his shit. But not to much you know. Like its time for something new and I am really starting to think that he is it. Plus the music video that made one of his speaches into a song is really amazing. Go watch it.

it really cool

Tuesday Febuary 12th

Today we where discussing the Industrial Revolution and how it effected the art of that time. I read an exerpt from a Charels Dickens story and a poem about that time. They gave me the same feelings that movies about that time do. People back then lived a long hard, dirty, sad life where their lives where consumed by work and making enough money to barly feed their families. This probably really effected the art of that time.

While the rich continued buying high priced classic art peices, the poor and working class began to create works of art that mirrored their lives. Some things that I noticed where a change from scenes of nature to generic, robotic dipictions of their factory towns. Poems where sad and somber. In my opinion this time in human history marked the begining of the end in terms of global warming and health of our planet.

Art Blog

So this new blog that I have created is going to be a place where I can reflect and share my art experience with the world. This blog is going to be coresponding with my 10th grade Humanities project, where we are looking at how history effects the art of that period and also learning to how to make our own paints in Chemistry. We will be making our own paintings with the paint we make.
